We are recruiting – Lyrical SoNGbirds - MUSICAL DIRECTOR
Members of this lively 24 strong Choir for Upper Voices, most of whom currently are over 60, are drawn from around Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. We normally sing in 3 or 4 parts. We meet to rehearse term-time Tuesday 10 am to 12 noon at Kingswood Methodist Church, Wollaton, Nottingham. Our term dates are based around those of Nottinghamshire schools.
Ideally, we are looking for an accomplished musician with experience of conducting choirs who will work with us to develop some challenging repertoire in a variety of musical genres. We sing some pieces a cappella but most accompanied. We are fortunate to have an accompanist for rehearsals and concerts. Experience of modern voice training techniques and the incorporation of these into rehearsals would be appreciated.
The MD would be engaged on a self-employed basis. Remuneration is based on Musician’s Union hourly rates. We have been performing & held concerts some 6 times a year at Charity events, nursing homes and jointly with other choirs.
We do not pay travelling expenses for our weekly rehearsals so are looking for an MD who feels easily able to travel to rehearsal and concert venues, so please include your current address in your CV. We will not shortlist candidates who live a long distance away unless they can demonstrate plans to move to the area.
Closing date 31st October 2024
We will shortlist soon after the closing date and invite suitable applicants to lead a session with the choir so that we can get to know each other. There will also be a short interview, and we will aim to make a decision soon after this.
